"Like father, like daughter... This is one of my very favorite behind the stage -photographs.
I was doing some other photography for Andrea Bocelli when his wife Veronica asked me to take a picture of their daughter Virginia who was on the side of the stage. First Virginia was drawing on a paper and that was difficult to make interesting in a photograph. So I decided to wait and suddenly during the very last notes she started 'imitating' her dad. I realized that this was the shot.
Many times the best of my works are coming originally from ideas by other people. My job is just to capture those ideas as best I can. This time I'm very happy how the capture came out."

"When I started shooting my big dream was to become an international rock photographer. The 2007 was a big turning point for me in Finland. It was quite a coincidence when apart from few exceptions all the most important international Finnish bands (Nightwish, HIM, Hanoi Rocks, Apocalyptica, and Amorphis) released albums in the same month and all of them had my pictures as the official promos. I realised I had to reach out to somewhere else from Finland if I wanted to proceed with my career.
Same time my personal life was getting too crazy and I had to take some personal time out at the country side. This picture was taken during that time. I think there's some very strong emotions in it. After few months of the peaceful life I felt I would be ready to move on.
And then the things started happening even though I wasn’t even doing anything. The Good Charlotte came to Finland with their crew that included Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and big media fuzz around them. The singer Joel Madden told me that he found my photo book ’The 69 Eyes: Route 69’ as one of his favourite art pieces in the world. He invited me on tour with the band straight from that spot. And very soon after that I was living in Los Angeles."

"When I moved to LA my first hometown was Hermosa Beach. I had ocean view from my house and life was relaxed. I didn't have many clients at the very beginning so I did my own projects in the beach cities from Palos Verde to Malibu. These shells (that seemed almost like butterflies) were on the beach one morning. I think there was something very enchanting about them. They felt like they were butterflies from the city of Atlantis.
This was how my first months in LA went by. But as expected after few months I had so much real work I had to move closer to Hollywood so that I didn't have to spend several hours a day in my car. My friends in the beach cities said to me: 'Ville don't go there! Hollywood will kill you!’"

"First this looked just like any ordinary LA scenery but the wall text on the bottom right made this shot interesting. This was taken close my house at Hollywood Hills in 2010. Around that time I was starting to feel like would need to take a walk. I would leave LA behind in order to survive. So that I wouldn't kill myself with the partying and all the other craziness I used to have in my life.
In the summer 2010 I left everything in LA behind. I sold all my belongings and I flew Spain to have over 600 miles hike in the ancient pilgrimage road: Camino de Santiago - Santiago's Road."

"2010 I spent two months walking on the ancient pilgrimage road in Spain. I walked about 1000 kilometers from Pyrenees mountains to the far side of the Europe at the Atlantic Ocean. That trip really changed my life. I decided that I want to stop the destructive life style I was having before that. I decided I wanted to be happy."

When I was done with the 1000km walk on The Road to Santiago. I felt like I needed more time for my thoughts. It was the fall 2010 and the weather was still nice in Finland so I decided to live few months in a tent on an island. But when the nights started to be minus celsius I got a bit afraid to get stucked on the island when the lake would freeze. I moved to a small cottage for the winter. In Spain it was easy to sleep anywhere under the stars just with the sleeping bag. But in Finland it gets a bit cold in the winter."
